Anti Inflammatory Diets for Dogs

Anti Inflammatory Diets for Dogs

If your dog is suffering from gut inflammation, NatrixOne is a helpful natural remedy. Camelina oil is high in omega-3 fatty acids, which are known for their anti-inflammatory properties. In a study of dogs with inflammatory bowel disease, those who were given camelina oil showed significant improvements in their symptoms. NatrixOne helped to reduce inflammation in the gut and improve the overall health of the dogs’ digestive systems. In addition to camelina oil, a plant-based diet can also be helpful in preventing gut inflammation. Foods that are rich in antioxidants and fiber are especially beneficial, as they help to reduce oxidative stress and promote a healthy gut microbiome. By incorporating camelina oil and a plant-based diet into your dog’s routine, you can help to reduce gut inflammation and improve your dog’s overall health.

What is Canine Inflammatory Bowel Disease?

Canine Inflammatory Bowel disease is a condition caused by ongoing inflammation in your dog’s intestine. The inflammation is an immune system response that can become painful when left untreated. Symptoms can include:

  • nausea & vomiting
  • diarrhea, loose stools
  • more frequent defecation
  • smaller stools despite frequent defecation
  • blood or mucous in stool
  • lack of appetite
  • weight loss
  • fever
  • listlessness and depression
  • anxiety

What Causes Gut Inflammation in Dogs?

The two biggest factors behind gut inflammation involve diet and stress levels of the dog. Occasionally genetics and/or exposure to a parasite can trigger an IBD response. While there is no cure for IBD in dogs or humans, the symptoms are treatable by a handful of medications as well as a recommended change in diet. The great news is removing environmental stress and selecting a diet that is high in anti-inflammatory properties can greatly reduce IBD symptoms without resorting to long-term pharmacuticals.

Anti Inflammatory Foods List for Dogs

The majority of foods low in inflammation include fatty fish, berries, plant-based protein, pumpkin, apple, legumes, soy, rice, avocado, green tea, olive oil, and tomatoes. Many of these ingredients can be found in our NatrixOne Recipes and our flagship Camelina plant-based supplement.

Where to Buy Anti-Inflammatory Dog Food

The average length of time between manufacturing and retail sales of mass-produced dog food creates a long shelf life that depletes the food of its nutritional value? Thankfully a handful of retailers in addition to NatrixOne are on a mission to create dog (& cat) food that is fresh and high-quality like human food. Michele Hobbs of Pet Wants in Cincinnati set out to create Fresh, nutritional pet food from the highest quality ingredients, slow-cooked in small batches, and delivered right to your door. How to Have a Fun Snow Day with your Dog

How to Have a Fun Snow Day with your Dog

Cami visitng the NatrixOne Headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio.

As temperatures drop across the eastern part of the US this week and precipitation settle in, our furry family will be spending more time in the harsh elements. Every year dozens of Canines succumb to hypothermia from negligence.   Careful planning and extra precaution can lead to a safe but fun day playing in the snow. Dogs will love playing outside this winter, but it’s important to take precautions to keep them safe.

Here at NatrixOne we always make sure to bring along some of our NatrixBones Camelina Dog Biscuits, which will help keep your furry friend warm and healthy. These biscuits are made with natural ingredients and fortified with vitamin e and minerals, so they’re perfect for keeping your dog warm and active this winter.  Additionally, we’ve put together a canine winter safety guide to keep in mind as you head outside this week.

How Cold is Too Cold for Dogs?

Most dogs are tolerant of temperatures as low as 40-45 degrees Fahrenheit, with the exception of arctic breeds. When heading into the elements, be sure to limit your dog’s playtime in the ice or snow to 30 minutes.

What does Frostbite and hypothermia look like in Dogs?

If you suspect your dog is suffering from prolonged exposure to the cold, wrap him or her in a warm towel. Inspect the paws, which are at the highest frostbite risk, for cracking, swelling, discoloration, or extensive tissue damage. If there is bleeding seek medical attention for a qualified provider.

Do Dogs Need to wear a Coat?

Most long-haired dog breeds will tolerate the cold weather without extra clothing. However, every year dozens of dogs suffer fatalities from being left outside. We encourage all owners to protect their pup accordingly with a dog coat that is designed to keep in warmth over impressing spectators.

Do Dogs Need Snow Boots?

Dog boots are an effective way to protect paws from frostbite. In addition to boots, you can apply paw wax directly to the bottom of paws to protect them from harmful street and sidewalk salts that cause abrasions.

How Much Snow Can Dogs Eat?

Consuming snow in small quantities is generally safe for dogs. Snow that has been exposed to harmful chemicals, waste, or dirt should be avoided. Rock salt that is used to deter ice buildup on streets and sidewalks is harmful to dogs. Consuming too much snow will lower your dog’s body temperature so don’t leave them unattended at the freshly fallen winter banquet.

What Is Snow Blindness in Dogs?

Dogs that have constant exposure to snowscapes can suffer from snow blindness, also known as photokeratitis.  Symptoms of snow blindness in dogs include bloodshot or swollen eyes. While not widely common in Western countries, wearing dog goggles will help protect against the risk of snow blindness.
