What are some of the benefits we would get with NatrixOne™ over a glucosamine-only based product?

We hope you enjoyed our first newsletter, Ask Dr. Rich. Like we promised, Dr. Rich will be answering your questions once per month via this email. This month’s topic is: Glucosamine.

A: Glucosamine is the precursor to glycosaminoglycans – the main component of joint tissue. However, most of the glucosamine taken by pets (and humans) is not bioavailable (it isn’t absorbed or able to be utilized by the animal) and so very large quantities are required to see an effect, and even then many dogs see no effect at all. Many treats and other foods have small amounts of glucosamine added, which brings up the cost, but does very little to benefit your pet.  Glucosamine is also often harvested from shellfish, which can be an inflammatory trigger in dogs with allergies.  While glucosamine based veterinary products can have some benefits with regards to osteoarthritis in dogs, that is really the only condition they will help in your pet.

What are the side effects of NatrixOne as compared to the side effects of prescribed medications for skin and joint conditions?

A: This is a common question I get from my patients. Because NatrixOne is a fatty acid, soft stool at the beginning, of course, can occur and is the reason I recommend starting at a half dose for a few days to a week and then increasing to the full dose.  Some food aversion can happen when you first introduce NatrixOne directly onto the food. We recommend trying the NatrixOne initially in a separate bowl or on your finger to allow your pet to sample it when not related to the food. That’s about it!

Now, side effects are short term and long term with the use of pharmaceutical drugs. The list goes on but here are a few:
 

SKIN DRUGS
Prednisone. Short Term: Increased thirst, frequent urination, increased appetite, slower wound healing or infection due to suppressed immune system, vomiting, diarrhea, aggression or behavioral changes and lethargy. Long Term: Cushing’s Disease, digestive tract ulcers, hair loss or dry hair, diabetes mellitus and heart problems.

Apoquel: Vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, inappetence and cost.

Antibiotics: Vomiting, diarrhea and anaphylactic reaction.

Cyclosporine: Immunosuppression, vomiting, diarrhea, inappetence, stomach ulcers, skin rashes and cost.

JOINT (Arthritis) DRUGS
Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs: Vomiting, decreased to no appetite, decreased activity level, diarrhea, kidney disease, stomach and intestinal ulceration, liver failure, diarrhea, vomiting and cost.

Prednisone: See Above

Tramadol: Sedation, vomiting, diarrhea, tremors/incoordination and constipation.

Gabapentin: Sedation, neurological changes/loss of coordination, vomiting, diarrhea, depression and oversleeping.

People often ask me, what can NatrixOne do for my pet? My standard answer is to discuss the benefits they will see with their friend’s mobility and coat. Phytonutrients are also known as phytochemicals or plant nutrients, the primary purpose of phytonutrients in plants is to shield the plant from pollution, insects, and the elements. While these special plant nutrients are non-essential for daily life, the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits of phytonutrients enhance immunity, repair DNA damage from exposure to toxins, reduce inflammation, and may help prevent diseases in humans and animals.  Below I will explain some of the primary phytonutrients found in our cold-pressed non-GMO camelina seed-oil and proprietary olive extract blend that make NatrixOne™ such a unique all-in-one supplement.

Polyphenols – Polyphenols help to maintain the health of blood flow through the veins, capillaries, and arteries. They lower the risk of cardiovascular disease, boost cognition, reduce the risk of diabetes, and improve gut health.

Beta carotene – Beta carotene is considered a provitamin A carotenoid, meaning that the body can convert it into vitamin A (retinol). Additionally, beta carotene has powerful antioxidant properties which reduce oxidative stress in the body.

Squalene – Squalene is otherwise known as omega 2, and has many similar benefits of omega 3.
